Sophisticated and Practical Design for a Clapham Common Terrace Home

My clients had recently bought a beautifully renovated terrace house in Clapham Common. They loved the bold, dark wall colours used throughout the first floor and basement but needed furniture, lighting, and soft furnishings that would suit both family life and entertaining. Most importantly, they needed plenty of storage to keep the space organised and practical.

I created a design concept with a colour palette that tied everything together, then sourced all the furniture, lighting, and artwork to bring the vision to life. The project also included designing six bespoke pieces of joinery to maximise storage. These included a bookcase, a drinks cabinet, a cloakroom, shoe storage, a large AV unit, and a general storage cupboard with an integrated wine cooler and wine rack. Each piece was carefully designed to work seamlessly with the existing interiors while providing the functionality the family needed.

The family’s health concerns also shaped the project. Some members were highly allergic to dust, so I took extra care to source hypoallergenic furniture fillings, high-quality manmade fabrics or leather, and lime-based hypoallergenic paint. To minimise disruption, the joinery was precision-cut off-site and assembled on-site without solvent-based materials.

The result is a home that perfectly balances style and practicality. It feels cohesive, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed—an elegant space that works beautifully for both family living and entertaining.
